Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what founders ask before they start. Still unsure? Write to us directly.

Getting started

The Diagnostic covers the five areas that tend to catch non-resident founders off guard: your Form 5472 obligation, your personal 1040-NR requirement, which W-8 or W-9 to give, sales tax nexus, and 1099-NEC obligations. You get a written answer for each one within 24 to 48 hours of receiving your completed questionnaire and documents. After payment, we first send you our engagement letter and consent forms to sign, then the questionnaire. No call needed.

No. The full $149 you pay for the Diagnostic is deducted from the price of the filing work you order afterwards, as long as you order it within 30 days. It’s meant to help you decide with confidence, not to be an extra cost on top of everything else.

Everything runs asynchronously. You choose your service and pay online. We then send you our engagement letter and consent forms to sign. Once they are signed, we send you the questionnaire and the list of documents we need, and you send everything through a secure client portal. Your prepared filings are delivered there, with clear instructions for anything that needs your signature. There’s no call to schedule and no time zone to plan around, which matters since most of our clients don’t live in the US.

Your filings are prepared by Amel Ouchene, who holds an IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN), which every paid US tax return preparer must have. A PTIN is a registration, not an IRS certification or endorsement, and Amel is not a CPA, an enrolled agent or an attorney. We prepare your returns for your review and signature, but we don’t represent clients before the IRS. More on that below.

Not necessarily. Late filings can still be made, and filing before the IRS contacts you, with a reasonable cause statement, gives you the best chance of avoiding or reducing penalties. The Diagnostic exists exactly for this. It tells you where you actually stand before you assume the worst.

That’s exactly what the free 2-minute check or the Diagnostic are for. You don’t need to already understand US tax law to start, just to answer some questions about your situation.

No. Melya does not represent clients before the IRS. A PTIN allows us to prepare returns, not to represent you before the IRS; representation generally requires a CPA, an enrolled agent or an attorney. If the IRS contacts you, we explain the notice, prepare your response for you to sign, and refer you to a representative if your case goes further.

Yes. Everything is done asynchronously by design, from payment to the questionnaire we send you, your uploads to the secure portal and the delivery of your documents, so time zones don’t slow anything down.

No. Since FinCEN’s final rule of August 2026, companies formed in the US no longer file BOI reports, whoever owns them. Only companies formed abroad and registered to do business in a US state still report. If you were charged for a BOI filing, ask your provider what was actually filed.

The free check is a quick self-assessment to point you in the right direction, a starting compass rather than a guarantee. The paid Diagnostic is a full written analysis of all five areas, prepared by Amel personally, based on the information you give us, and its cost is credited toward your filing if you go ahead within 30 days.

Just your LLC details and whatever documents you already have: prior filings, bank statements, or nothing at all if you’re just forming your LLC. After you pay and sign our engagement documents, we send you the exact list for your situation. Please do not send tax numbers, passport or bank details through the website forms or by ordinary email.

Documents go through a secure client portal, never email attachments, and are only used for the work you’ve asked for. Please do not send tax numbers, passport or bank details through the website forms.

That’s fine. Most of what’s in a bundle is also available à la carte (Melya Annual and LLC Closure are sold only as plans), and if your situation is genuinely unusual, we’ll say so honestly and quote it separately.

No. Each service is one-time and scoped upfront. Only Melya Annual renews each year, and you can cancel it at any time.
